HISTORY

The mighty rivers of this planet are born in creeks of obscure little hills, barely visible to the eye. So is the story of this great institution RSST. It took birth on the auspicious day of Vijayadasami of Vikramanama samvatsara corresponding to the Christian year 1940, in a small rented premises in Visveswarapuram, Bangalore. The number of pupils on the roll was barely 6 and the first teacher of this miniature school was Sri M C Sivananda Sarma himself.

The grit and determination of the founder, Sri Sivananda Sarma, was such that he made it a pleasant duty to visit all the houses in the extension where the school was situated and appeal to the parents and guardians to send their children to his school. Then, he enlisted the sympathy and cooperation of people living in the locality. Thus a sapling was planted ,which today, has grown into a mighty tree providing the shade of knowledge to thousands, year after year.

During the first ten years when the school infrastructure was not in place Sri Sivananda Sarma had to face many hardships. However, with perseverance and determination, he overcame all the difficulties. Thus from the small rented premises in Visveswarapuram  and the Arsoji Rao Choultry, the school moved to a two storey, 24 room building which housed the nursery, primary, middle school for boys and girls  and the High school for girls. The impressive RV Teachers College building in Jayanagar came up next which also housed the just born RV College of Engineering in its premises. Over the years, RV has not only become a house hold name in the city, synonymous with quality and meaningful education, but also a part of Bangalore’s road map. ‘RV Road’, the stretch between the JC road and  the Southend circle is a well known land mark.

It is interesting to note that as far back as 1963, it was the  foresight of the trustees which saw the sprawling 52 acre campus of RV College of Engineering come up on the Mysore road on the outskirts of the city. Now called ‘Vidyaniketan’, the facility came up with the unstinting support of a number of philanthropists both from within and outside the Trust.

With a single-minded commitment, the Trust and its institutions are growing at a pace which is awe-inspiring. Each institution today boasts of the best in equipment and infrastructure, and is the first choice of every discerning parent due to its academic reach and quality of education.

Rashtreeya Vidyalaya Group of Educational Institutions, a conglomerate of 26 educational institutions run by the trust, consists of philanthropists, family businessmen, professionals and academicians.  The institutions range from schools to professional colleges, including Management, Dental, Engineering, Nursing and Teacher education.  The Group is over 60 years old and operates all the Institutions with the main objective of offering education to its students without any bias.  There are over 18000 students and 1700 personnel in all its campuses situated at BANGALORE, the Silicon Valley of India.  The trust consists of the Board headed by its President, Dr.M.K.Panduranga Setty, an internationally acclaimed industrialist and International Rotarian.
